Working with waste

Tom Edwards reflects on his Nest Residency

My residency fell on a time that I was very busy with other work commitments so unfortunately I didn’t get to make the most of it.

My original idea was to start working on a tin metal marionette.

It quickly became apparent that lugging my metalworking tools to the nest from my allotment workshop and back wasn’t feasible, so I decided to develop a practice of making roses from waste wood shavings.

I enjoyed having the time to gather my thoughts in a calm space and do some creative work without a sense of hurry. It was a valuable experience, one that wish I was able to take better advantage of!
